Rollerpony Game Design
About RollerponyRollerpony is an 18+ roller skating venue in Etobicoke, Ontario, featuring a modern hybrid skate floor, skate rentals, a pro shop, Caribbean cuisine, and custom lighting and sound. Founded by Wil Mclean and George Sully, it aims to create a lively community for skaters.

Challenge
The client identified a major pain point in briefing first-time rollerskaters about rink rules. Currently, staff must verbally explain the rules each time someone enters, which is laborious and often ineffective as people don’t pay enough attention. Will, the owner, wants a game-like experience to present the rules so skaters can either play it on the website to familiarize themselves with the rules or watch the game video on TV before entering the rink.
Highlights
My Role

As the UX designer, following the client brief and team ideation session, I created the initial game sketches using Procreate. These sketches were then translated into a low-fidelity prototype. After several rounds of client feedback, I developed high-fidelity prototypes and a game video to be featured at the rink.
Design process
The process starts with carefully analyzing the client's requirements, as the project directly addresses their needs, and then continues with ideation sketches, followed by the creation of wireframes and prototypes. Through multiple iterations, the wireframes and prototypes are refined before integrating colors to align with the branding for the final deliverables.
Strategy Statement
A UX strategy statement has been adopted to align efforts within a limited timeframe of 7 weeks, ensuring a focused and efficient creation process. This statement guides the crafting of impactful game experiences that meet both business objectives and user needs. It promotes collaboration, aids decision-making, and facilitates measurement of success.
User Flow
To visualize the game's experience and interactions, a user flow was drafted to guide the creation process.
Sketches
To bring our ideas to life, we had a brainstorming session where we sketched out the concepts. Afterwards, I used Procreate to create low-fidelity versions of the sketches to visualize our ideas more clearly.
Low Fidelity
During the ideation phase, many ideas for game interaction and animation were generated. To test these ideas and their feasibility, low-fidelity wireframes and prototypes were developed. This allowed for quick evaluation of concepts, helping determine which ones to implement before progressing to high-fidelity prototypes.
High Fidelity
After finalizing the animations and interactions, branding and colors were added to better visualize and match the RollerPony retro style.
