NXNE Music Festival App Design
About NXNENorth by Northeast (NXNE) is an annual music and arts festival in Toronto, Ontario, held every June. Established in 1995, it features emerging talent from around the world across various city venues. In addition to music, the festival includes comedy, film, visual arts, and eSports, making it a diverse cultural event. NXNE is known for its commitment to diversity and providing a platform for new artists.

Challenge
The website's current navigation is challenging, especially with a static timetable and having various artist performances across different venues. As the only official source for festival information, it lacks a seamless on-the-go music festival experience. Moreover, the client mentioned they want to enhance community engagement by promoting local businesses near the venues.

Highlights
My Role

As the UX designer, after listening to the client’s brief, I created the user survey to collect previous festival-goers' experiences and identify their expectations for a festival app. Based on the client’s provided information, I developed user narratives and user flows to guide the wireframe and prototyping process. Then, I created and adjusted the wireframes and interactions for the final prototype.
Design process
In 7 weeks, the progress went from understanding both the client's and their targeted customers' needs to refining ideas through various wireframe iterations, culminating in a functional and visually appealing solution that satisfied their requirements.
User Survey
In order to understand the experiences of festival-goers and grasp their expectations and pain points within a short amount of time, a survey was designed to gather responses from individuals who have attended the festival before or are frequent festival-goers.
SWOT Analysis
To grasp industry standards from existing music festival apps, we cross-referenced various apps and crated a SWOT analysis.
Following the survey and SWOT analysis, we reached an agreement on our target and design directions.
Persona & User Flow
To align research insights and guide decision-making in the design process, user persona and detailed user flows were drafted for three scenarios: pre-concert, during the concert, and post-concerts.
Low Fidelity
To conceptualize our ideas and enable iterative refinement for the solution, low-fidelity wireframes were developed the user persona and user flow in mind.
High Fidelity
To refine our solution's visual presentation, align with branding guidelines, and progress to interaction design, high-fidelity wireframes were created with the provided branding kit.
Prototyping
After establishing the wireframes, the prototypes showcased the design solution and interaction approach.
